S.C.E.N.E. Fest

S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival
2012

Where do I begin? Let's start by letting you all know that Marlee and I managed to get lost again on our treck from Toronto to St. Catharine's for the second year in a row. We needed to get off the QEW at Ontario St. but no one mentioned the fact that there are 3 Ontario St. exits across 3 towns. Aside from that little hold back we made it to St. Catharine's ready to have some fun. After immediately checking in we went right to the streets. SCENE Fest offers something totally different than the average music festival. SCENE shuts down the entire down town core of St. Catharine's and turns the city into a concert hall in itself. There were 160+ bands playing in one day, in one city... that sounds a lot like heaven to me!
The line up this year was incredible, like always we've picked out top 3 for our KILLED IT LIST.

TOP 3
Killed It List:

#1 STEREOKID
#2 MONSTER TRUCK
#3 SAID THE WHALE

Something must be said for our #1 band STEREOKID. This band honestly puts on a show like no other. These 4 dudes are some of the coolest down to earth bro's around. They put together such a high energy show, it is literally impossible to stand still while watching them. They MAKE you want to move your feet. Scene Fest actually introduced us to StereoKid a few years back and I've been a fan since day 1! The band released a 3 song EP a few years back and those 3 tracks are carved in my brain. I can't forget the lyrics and beats to those songs if I tried, which i'd never do because I love them way to much. Huge shout outs to the guys for playing those oldies for us! We always have a great time at their shows and strongly suggest seeing STEREOKID before they actually take over the world.

Another moment that will stick in my memory for ever was watching illScarlett busk for change for WAR CHILD. These guys are such hard working musicians, whether they are acoustic or fully mic'd up they kill it every time. Marlee and I were able to catch them do one of my favorite tracks "Nothing Special" outside on the street corner. Talk about being at the right place at the right time!

The line up this year was killer, we were able to see some of the biggest bands in Canadian music in such a small intimate setting. We rocked out during Monsters Truck's set during the afternoon, what a show those guys put on. Geez, they were incredibly tight with each other and had the entire crowd singing at the top of their lungs. Another band worth mentioning is Down With Webster. They headlined SCENE Fest the first year we covered it and they were back to do it again, and this time they didn't get rained out! Those boys sure do understand stage presence, although it has to be said Kap is definitely missing and I don't mean physically, I mean all together.
RIP DWW FLAG

We have been posting for the last 3 years bands to watch out for coming out of SCENE Fest so it's time to announce this years winner!
